 Fishing is excellent.  We are catching a wide range of fish including Stripers(Rockfish), Bluefish, Croaker, and now some Spot.  Action has been all day and as you can see a couple of my anglers were completely exhausted from catching fish.  I still have good days available for charter.  News down the bay is that there is a big Cobia bite on.  The Cobia week, July 5 – 10, still has some days open so if you’re interested in those whoppers give me a call.  The next Open Boat Day is July 4th and has slots open also.

The regular season for the Stripers has steadily improved all week.  I tried to troll to catch the bigger fish but it proved to be not enough action.  Started dumping chum and the action began.  Lots of Stripers and some big Croaker mixed in.  This has been one beautiful week after the rain moved out of here on Tuesday.  Watch out, Bluefish are coming.  The action will really be hot when they get on your line.

The fish got onery this week.  They bit real early and even though we started an extra hour earlier most days we had to really work hard to get what we needed.  I’m looking forward to switching over to the chumming next week for the 2 fish per person.  I think the fish are tired of us fooling them with those trolling lures and are looking for some “real” food. 

Another great week of fishing.  It’s just been fantastic.  Looking back through the last 4 or 5 years, this has been the best trophy season.  We’ve caught more fish and they have been bigger than in prior years.

   

The general Striped Bass(Rockfish) season opens on May 16 where you can keep 2 fish per person. Blues will be coming in soon also which means lots of pulling action mixed in with the Rockfish.  If you want to get in on the big Red Drum that will be mid-summer you better get on the books now.  These fish are only here for a short time and those charters have become really popular because of the size of the fish even though most of them are too large for us to keep.  I usually can fill in with other species so you can still take home a good catch.  If you love spot & croaker you’ll want to book a bottom fishing trip June through August.   Also, I’ll relocate the boat down the bay to Horn Harbor Marina in Mathews July 5-9 to fish around the Bay Bridge Tunnel for cobia & shark if I can book the 5 days straight to make it worth my while to make the move.  The cost for the cobia trips will be a little higher–$650 for 6 people and $75 for each extra passenger.  If you look on the homepage you will see some of the big trophy cobia and sharks we caught last year.  I will need to know whether or not to make the arrangements to relocate, so you can’t wait until the last minute to commit for July 5-9. Wow! What a week of fishing!  The bite was slower last Saturday and Sunday because there were so many boats out there on the weekend trying to catch them.  The rest of the week the bite was much better especially early in the morning.  The fish are absolutely beautiful.  Great pulling action…you know it when you reel in one of these guys!

I’m offering another open boat day on July 2nd leaving from Coan River Marina in Lottsburg.  The cost is $100/person which includes everything except your lunch and beverage (mate’s tip included).  Limited to first 10 people and must be paid in full to hold your space.  Email or call 804-529-6725 to reserve your spot or for more info.   Capt.  The first 2 fish brought on board this season were caught simultaneously by two lady anglers, Gilda Gilbert and Lorraine Holtzman.  Fishing during this first week has been the best we have had in years.  You can keep 1 Striped Bass during the Trophy Season which ends May 15th.  After that the limit increases to 2 fish per person.  Call or email me if you want a list of available dates.
