Great End to 2011

January 4th, 2012

The last week of December and the end of the Virginia season had some great fishing.  Two days that week were not fishable due to the wind but the other days proved to be good.  Thanks for everyone who fished with me in 2011.  Hope 2012 is Happy & Healthy for all!

ONLY 2 WEEKS LEFT FOR THE BAY SEASON

December 18th, 2011

Friday and Saturday were tough days with a lot of wind and really rough seas.  I want to thank everyone who hung in there with me as I tried my best to find you fish.  Unfortunately, not every day is going to be a bluebird day so I hope you’ll come back and give it another try.  Today, the wind moderated as the day went on and fishing picked back up as you can tell by the photos below.  There’s only 2 weeks left for the bay season and then it closes until mid-April.  As that season winds down the ocean season starts.  I think there’s a lot of good fishing time left because we’ve had mild temps this year and the water is still warm. The ocean fishing will hopefully be a lot better than the prior two seaons when unusually early snows cooled the water down fast and cause the fish to go offshore where we couldn’t get them.  I’m sure ready for a mild winter so we’ll have good ocean fishing again.  Contact me if you want to go fishing…Tight Lines, David

Dec. 27th — Open Boat Day

December 15th, 2011

I still have Dec. 27th open so I’ll offer it as an open boat fishing on the bay. I’ll probably be leaving from the Reedville area but you would have to be flexible so far as meeting locations. If the fish decide to move on lower down the bay between now and then, I’ll have to move with them. The cost is $100 per person for the day and includes the mate’s tip. By reservation only and must be paid in advance to hold your spot since space is limited. There’s a lot of people off from work & school that week so I expect it to fill quickly. Call 804-529-6725 or 804-366-5050.

Merry Christmas!

David

More Striper Photos

Still a good mix of fish & still some good days available for charter. Open days for the bay fishing are Dec. 19, 21, 22, 23, 27. & 31. Also, have a couple of spots still available for the Open Boat on Dec. 16th. Can’t think of any nicer Christmas present to give or receive than a good day of fishing! If you want to venture into the ocean & try your luck for the big boys after Jan 1st please contact me for open days in January also.

Big Stripers…..

December 7th, 2011

I don’t have many charters booked this week so my wife took off from work today and I took her fishing.  We caught one fish that was 42″ long and weighed 31 lbs, another one that weighed in at 29 lbs, in addition to, a couple of 10 pounders.  I’m so glad that she finally got to pull in some really good fish.  If you are looking for a charter please give me a call.  I still have some time available this month and plenty of available days in January fishing out of Virginia Beach.

Relocated to Fairport Marina near Reedville

December 2nd, 2011

I relocated the boat down the Bay this week to try for the bigger Striped Bass.  We had been catching the smaller fish on the Middle Grounds but since most charters want the larger fish I decided to make the move to Fairport Marina near Reedville because there had been some larger fish caught down there.  Yesterday was the first day of fishing around the Cut Channel and it was a disappointment.  It was a really windy day and it was a tough go finding fish.  We only caught a few schoolie size rockfish and I was afraid that I had made the wrong decision to relocate.  I went right back to the same spot today and we found the Gannets working with nice 22″-30″  fish underneath.  Made me feel a lot better when everyone started pulling in the fish and all had their limits to take back home. It’s only  20 minutes farther by car from my homeport in Lottsburg.  If you have an upcoming charter or want to book one you can find the directions to Fairport Marina on the “Directions” tab on the website. Here’s hoping for more tight lines! More Good Fishing.

November 20th, 2011

More good striper fishing.  We’re having lots of action.  Each person can keep 2 fish but it’s a lot of hook and release action after we’ve reach our limits.  I have plenty of weekdays still available but weekends are booked out through December.  I have both weekends and weekdays available for the fishing in Virginia Beach after January 1.  Give me a call if I can be of service.

Bigger Fish.

November 13th, 2011

The Gannets were on the money.  The fish we are catching are larger and should continue to improve.  The fish are solid and in good shape as you can tell from the photos.

The Gannets Have Arrived.

November 2nd, 2011

Those of you who have done a lot of Striper fishing know what it means when the Gannets show up.  Gannets are migratory sea birds that feed around the big Stripers(Rockfish) & big bait fish so when they show up you know that the big fish are arriving.  I saw the Gannets for the first time in good numbers this past weekend.  I haven’t been back yet to see what’s going on but am hopeful we’ll see some bigger fish this week.  We have had a lot of action on the 3 – 6 lb Stripers using light tackle but I know that some of you only want the monster fish so it won’t be long now.  Get your long johns out and let’s go FISHING! I have heat in the cabin but you can’t catch fish sitting in there with me!  There will still be a lot of nice days before the cold sets in.
